The first week of the trip was spent in el Lagartillo, a small community of families determined to live sustainably and responsibly toward the Earth. Here is where I received my Spanish instruction with Norma, a wonderful and patient teacher. Here is where I also had the most troubles out of the two week trip. But in the end, my frustrations only built my character up a little more than before and I am grateful for having that experience.
After leaving el Lagartillo (and visiting the nearest city, Achuapa), we moved toward the bigger cities in Nicaragua. First Esteli, and finally onto Managua, Nicaragua's capital. There were a few short trips in between these two cities that will be described in the following journal entries.
I often wrote in Spanglish. And now that I am reading it over again, I notice that some of my Spanish is incorrect. But I learned so much!
I had one incredible, memorable, frustrating, epic adventure. Here it is...
